Development History & Release Notes

Electrisim software versions curated from GitHub history, with the main changes in each release.

Software versions

Electrisim is continuously developed as open power-system analysis software powered by pandapower, OpenDSS, and ANDES. Releases follow Semantic Versioning (MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH): MINOR for new features, PATCH for fixes. The versions below are feature releases, aligned with work in the frontend and backend repositories. The date on each card is when that release shipped.

1.18.0 BESS preliminary design, Grid Code (V-Q) & plant SLD wizard September 2026
  • New study: BESS Preliminary Design (Simulate → BESS Studies) — enter POC Pn and grid-code power factor (Q = Pn × tan(acos(PF))), generate the utility-scale HV plant SLD (Grid → POC → HV/MV transformer → MV collection → N× cable / string trafo / PCS inverter / DC bus / battery), then run named load-flow corner cases (Umin / Unom / Umax × export/import × capacitive/inductive, plus rated charge/discharge), rating checks, P/Q envelope at the POC, optional OLTC tap sweep; click a case or chart point to fill SLD result boxes; PDF summary. File → New template: Utility-scale BESS (HV POC)
  • New study: Grid Code Compliance (V-Q) — U-Q/Pmax at the PCC with plant P held at Pmax; red Qmax/Qmin versus the blue grid-code envelope (Q/Pmax × Pn); local Q or Park Controller constant Q at the PoC; pandapower; live progress and Stop. Distinct from Grid Code (P-Q) and from the older combined P-Q & U-Q study
  • BESS plant SLD: PCS inverter symbol, DC rack, optional three-winding MV skid (2 or 4 inverters per 690 V winding); Storage P–Q capability and OpenDER dispatch-reversal refinements from the post-1.17.0 BESS updates
  • Protection coordination results show whether each OCR is evaluated by pandapower or the Electrisim curve engine, plus attach notes
  • Storage Q-capability chart helpers on the Storage dialog; Map Editor basemap switched to Esri World Street Map (Carto tiles now require an API key)
1.17.0 BESS dispatch reversal (OpenDER), storage Q capability & busbar P/Q September 2026
  • New study: BESS Dispatch Reversal (Simulate menu) — charge→discharge P-step at the POC, co-simulating the IEEE 1547 inverter (EPRI OpenDER) with the OpenDSS network; V / P / Q vs time for FCR-style reversals (RMS screening, not a vendor EMT/PCS model)
  • Storage P–Q capability (Qmin/Qmax vs |P|) in pandapower and OpenDSS load flow, with capacitive/inductive max Q setpoints; the same envelope feeds OpenDER Q limits
  • On-diagram busbar result boxes: net P, Q, PF, and Q/P. Several BESS or generators on one bus are summed once (no double-count with branch flow)
  • External Grid min R0/X0 and X0/X for IEC 60909 single-phase minimum short-circuit; older diagrams reuse the max ratios if min is blank
  • Protection OCR: DTOC / IDMT / IDTOC TCC (IEC 60255 and IEEE C37.112), native pandapower trips plus Electrisim curve evaluation
  • Load flow warns with a confirm dialog when a transformer winding kV does not match the connected bus
1.16.0 ANSI/IEEE C37 short-circuit, Grid Code (P-Q) & live study progress September 2026
  • ANSI/IEEE C37 Short Circuit (beta) on the Pandapower tab: first-cycle (1/2-cycle), interrupting, and 30-cycle symmetrical duties with IEEE C37.010 / C37.13 / UL 489 / C37.013 multiplying factors; dedicated results dialog with per-bus currents and Switch duty pass/fail; currents written to diagram result boxes
  • Generator ANSI machine type and Switch interrupting / momentary ratings (Short Circuit tab) for equipment duty comparison on North American and Canadian projects
  • New study: Grid Code Compliance (P-Q) — P-Q envelope at the point of connection, separate from P-Q & U-Q; optional Park Controller plant-Q dispatch; independent two-winding / three-winding tap and shunt-reactor control; chart uses net P and Q at the PCC with grid-code overlay in p.u. of Pmax at the PoC
  • Simulation progress overlay across cloud studies — live log, expandable panel, Stop, and NDJSON streaming for long grid-code P-Q and RPC runs (load flow, OPF, short circuit, arc flash, protection, contingency, time series, and more)
1.15.0 Grid-code WTG, dual-solver shunt control & robust load flow August 2026
  • Grid Code Compliance (P-Q & U-Q) now selects Wind Turbine units as well as static generators; P-Q templates auto-pair the matching U-Q/Pmax envelope; U-Q template voltages are merged into the sweep so the U-Q chart is a curve
  • Pandapower load flow: automatic solver fallback (drop tap/shunt controllers, more iterations, flat start, Iwamoto) with an alert when the requested controller run cannot converge
  • OpenDSS snapshot load flow: same shunt characteristic table, discrete voltage control, and Line P→shunt step as pandapower; static generators / WTGs as constant-PQ (Generator Model=1)
  • Line-flow shunt control is gated with DiscreteShunt under Include controller → Shunt reactor tap changer (Park Controller stays independent)
  • File → New template: offshore wind farm 1 GW (rev 6); editor study modules load on demand for faster startup
1.14.0 Wind turbines, park control & OpenDSS studies August 2026
  • Dedicated Wind Turbine element: P(v) power curve (2.5 / 3.3 MW onshore and 15 MW offshore templates), voltage-dependent Q capability (P–U), and automatic P [MW] from wind speed in the element dialog and Component Data
  • Park Controller (pandapower) for plant Q, voltage, power factor, and tan(φ); cosφ(P) Overexcited (capacitive) / Underexcited (inductive) branches; Python export of park specs and WTG Q limits
  • Wind Turbine Controller (steady-state Pref from curve) and dynamic controller (averaging / gradient limiting)
  • OpenDSS: DG interconnection screening, Monte Carlo load flow, and RegControl / CapControl / StorageController
  • ANDES inverter-based resource / wind plant dynamics (REGCA1)
