Battery energy storage sizing and preliminary design
Battery sizing for POC P/Q targets
This study sizes the electrical P/Q the BESS must provide so the point of coupling (POC) bus meets a target P (MW) and Q (Mvar). It answers “how hard must the battery work for this schedule?” — not switchgear ampacity or IEC 61439 busbar ratings.
Simulate → Battery Sizing for Busbar Requirements (pandapower). Model the POC, grid connection, and storage; set target P/Q; an iterative controller adjusts BESS dispatch until the POC is within tolerance.
BESS preliminary design (HV POC)
Simulate → BESS Studies → BESS Preliminary Design is a guided workflow for utility-scale BESS at an HV point of connection: enter POC Pn, grid-code power factor, PCS and transformer ratings, generate the plant SLD, run named load-flow cases, and compare the plant P/Q capability envelope with the grid-code Q band.
- Initial HV-connected configuration from POC parameters
- Rating checks on PCS, transformers, and cables
- P/Q and U–Q compliance charts at Umin / Unom / Umax
This is preliminary load-flow screening — not a substitute for detailed protection, short-circuit, or dynamic studies.
